The Mobile Excellence Awards (MEA) is “the most influential and coveted awards program” in the mobile industry, recognizing the “best of the best in mobile entertainment and technology.” Past Mobile Excellence winners include Rovio Mobile Ltd. for the mega-hit Angry Birds (Best Mobile Games), USA Today for USA Today iPad App (Best Mobile App for Utility or Business), and Best Buy for Best Buy Holidy (Best Mobile Campaign for Consumer Brand). So imagine our excitement when we saw Mobile Roadie featured in the subtitle of the official press release announcing the finalists for the 2011 Mobile Excellence Awards earlier this week, alongside recognizable brands like Sony Entertainment, Sprint, Mercedes Benz, AT&T, and Samsung.
The Mobile Excellence Awards are separated into three award categories (Mobile Business, Mobile Technology, and Mobile Entertainment) and two “premier” awards (Mobile Hall of Fame and the Mobile Ambassador Award). In these award categories are 18 categories including Best Mobile Innovator, Best Mobile Product, and Best Original Content Made For Mobile. Finalists were chosen by an esteemed group of judges who scored submissions on 5 criteria, including Strategic Initiative, Impact of Technology used in the Industry, Creativity, Ease of Use & Reach, and last but not least Execution & Proven Success in the Market.
This year’s advisory board for the Mobile Excellence Awards include such industry leaders as Sarah Miller (CEO Axis PR/Founder & Chair of the MEA), John Rubey (President AEG Live), Mark Deetjen (VP Programming Sony Pictures International), and Scott Holmes (CEO United Future), among others.
We’re a finalist for the Best Community/Fan Content Award under Mobile Entertainment with the Katy Perry official app, in competition with nominees July Systems for Cornetto Mobile Site, Bravo Digital Media for Top Chef All-Stars Social TV, and NBC.com for NBC iPad Application. Last year’s winner in this category was Bravo for Bravo Mobile Communities. The Best Community/Fan Content Award “honors integrated content, activities and/or interactive experience created to service specific interest groups or fan base of particular entertainment artist or program.”
