San Diego Zoo Launches Their Official App!

posted by Terri Kim

From the dedication and collaborative efforts of both the Mobile Roadie and San Diego Zoo teams, we would like to present the official San Diego Zoo mobile app.

Located in Balboa Park in San Diego, CA, the San Diego Zoo is 100 acres of 9 themed exhibits where over 4,000 animals of 800 different species roam in open habitats that have been designed to replicate their homes in the wild. One of the most popular exhibits in the Zoo is Panda Canyon, which is home to three giant pandas. In fact, the Zoo is one of the few in the world to house this rare animal. Another popular exhibit is Polar Rim, where visitors can view Kalluk, Tatqiq & Chinook swim underwater in their 130,000 gallon pool and lounge around on the shore.

From planning your trip to after your visit and everything in between, the app was created to be your comprehensive guide to the Zoo. Before you visit, browse through the different exhibits, animals, and catch up on all the events going on. You can then buy tickets through the app and plan your route via the Google map feature. Once you’re at the zoo, use the app to find dining options, shows & activities, and with the detailed map you’ll never lose your way. Don’t forget to upload pictures and share your thoughts on the Fan Wall through the app via social networks.

One of the most anticipated features of the app is the integration of live cams. Users can view real-time streaming of the Zoo’s Polar Cam and its recently upgraded HD Panda Cam right on their phones anytime of the day.

Through our platform, the San Diego Zoo is able to pack 100 acres of content into one app for visitors to enjoy. “This app gives greater access to the Zoo when they’re planning their visit or spending a day with us. We expect that the mobile access to our live animal cams, combined with detailed descriptions and beautiful images, will add up to family-friendly entertainment and a highly repeatable education resource.” said Ted Molter, Director of Marketing for the Zoo.

We’re honored to power this app “that is going to bring the joy and wonder of the San Diego Zoo to animal lovers’ smartphones everywhere,” Michael Schneider, Mobile Roadie CEO, expressed.

Mobile Roadie artists win big at the 45th Annual CMA Awards

posted by Terri Kim

It was an amazing night at the 45th Annual CMA Awards on Nov. 9th hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. With Hollywood and music superstars in attendance and over two dozen performers, 9 of whom have Mobile Roadie apps including Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Darius Rucker, Chris Young, and Rascal Flatts, “country music’s biggest night” didn’t disappoint in the “Music City” of Nasville, Tennessee.

We’d like to congratulate all the winners of the CMA awards this year, as well as the nominees. Here are the big winners, some of whom are Mobile Roadie artists.

With a growing worldwide following and a library of chart-topping hits, this artist clearly has the Midas touch: Taylor Swift took the night’s biggest award, winning CMA Entertainer of the Year again (She won the award back in 2009), edging above fellow country superstars Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban.

The Album of the Year award belonged to Jason Aldean who won with his multi-platinum selling album “My Kind of Party”, claiming the top spot against tough competitors like Blake Shelton with “All About Tonight”, Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now”, Brad Paisley with “This is Country Music”, and Zac Brown Band’s “You Get What You Give”.

And surprisingly (or maybe not), Sugarland won the “Vocal Duo of the Year” award for the fifth year in a row.

The Band Perry were the big winners of the night, taking home three awards- Best New Artist, Single of the Year,”Song of the Year” for their hit “If I Die Young” written by Band Perry’s Kimberly Perry.

Other winners of the night included Miranda Lambert (Female Vocalist of the Year), Blake Shelton (Male Vocalist of the Year), Lady Antebellum (Vocal Group), Jason Aldean with Kelly Clarkson for “Dont You Wanna Stay” (Musical Event of the Year), Kenny Chesney feat. Grace Potter for “You and Tequila” directed by Shaun Silva (Music Video), and Mac McAnally for Guitar (Musician).

Congratulations again!

For the latest version of Mobile Roadie, we focused on improving app performance, marketing power, and user engagement. Tailored for the recent release of iOS5, and updated to include a bevvy of new features and improvements, 3.3 is a testament to our mission to bring you the best mobile engagement platform.

Without further ado, here are the highlights of what’s new in MoRo 3.3:

*PhotoCards: Available as a Pro option, you can customize photocards to fit your brand like how the LA Kings have done (Above Screenshot: Last two images on the right), which then users will be able to overlay on top of photos snapped through your app. Users can then take these framed photos and send and share with friends. You can find out more about PhotoCards here.

*Share to Unlock: In addition to locking content with QR codes and the Email-for-Media widget (available for Topspin users), now you can lock specific content with “Share to Unlock.” To unlock content, users must share your app to their social networks.

*Popup Notifications: Now you can promote any in-app content on the homescreen by scheduling Popup notifications (a.k.a. Modals). Learn more about Popup Promos here.

*Enhanced Push Notifications: Now you can see how engaged your users are- Very Engaged, Engaged, and Less Engaged-on the map with color coded dots, and then accordingly send different push notifications depending on the user type.

*Offline Mode: If you choose to activate Offline Mode (via CMS), your users can batch download content at the first application startup and then view cached content offline or in areas of limited service. You can find out more about Offline Mode here.

*Homescreen Slideshow Capabilities: We’ve added slideshow and cover flow capabilities to bring some life into an otherwise static homescreen. You can learn more about Home Screen Slideshows here.

*Improved Graphics: 3.3 apps look better than ever with a higher resolution loading screen and improved graphics for older devices like iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd Generation.

*Instagram Your Instagram feed can now automatically import to the Photos section via any hashtag in the CMS.

Extras
In 3.3, you can track received push notifications (Pro only), categorize restaurant menus into sections (if you’re a restaurant owner), link content from Locations, and add end dates and times for events.

For app users, 3.3 will enable them to receive updates via “Pull to Refresh“, add images directly to their comments, and view more Top Users than before.

Better Performance
With 3.3, your app will perform better than ever courtesy of the following updates: Improved iPod library matching; reduction of file size by 4MB+; localized email and SMS sharing features for all languages; RTL (Right to Left) language support for all news and comments views; and simplified Chinese translations for apps.

Partner Updates
Our partnerships with leading tech companies allow us to offer you a fully comprehensive platform. Partner updates in 3.3 include Facebook, Twitter for iOS5, Foursquare, Ustream, Livestream, Ooyala, and Sina Weibo (Chinese version of Twitter).

In Conclusion
From new features to increase user engagement and to improve performance to more partner integrations, we hope you enjoy all that Mobile Roadie 3.3 has to offer. 3.3 features will be automatically updated in the coming weeks.

Mobile Roadie Connect is now live!

posted by Terri Kim

It’s official. Now you can preview your app before it goes live through Mobile Roadie Connect. Connect is free to download in the Apple App Store, and best of all it is easy to use. Customers who are building an app through our CMS only need their login information to sign in to Mobile Roadie Connect. In addition to seeing what their app looks like, customers can test out all app features like scrolling through photos, viewing push notifications, and commenting on the Fanwall and more to experience the app through users’ eyes before release.

Recently approved by Apple for download in the App Store, we are excited to bring Mobile Roadie Connect to our current and future customers. Connect allows customers to test their app every step of the way, decreasing the chance for mess-ups and rushed, last minute changes before the app is submitted to Apple for approval. Before Mobile Roadie Connect, a customer could only view their app through the CMS, but now, you can view your app anytime, anywhere.

Creating an app with Mobile Roadie is easier than ever. The CMS does a great job aggregating and managing all of your data in one central location; and now you can experience how the CMS transforms content into an app section by section. You can also watch demo videos and contact support reps through Connect.

Mobile Roadie Connect is a must-have app that we can’t wait for you to test out. To download the app, click here.

Paley Center for Media International Council Forum Mobile App

posted by Terri Kim

The Paley Center for Media International Council (IC) is a traveling, independent forum starting the 14th and running through today at The Paley Center for Media, in Beverly Hills, CA. The 2011 version, Aptly named “Beyond Disruption,” is dedicated to bringing the top media, entertainment, and technology executives from companies like CBS, Netflix, Google, Facebook, NBC Universal, IAC, Walt Disney and many others, together to share their views and strategy on the present and future of their industries. The new mobile app, created by Rockstar Digital is an extension of the conference, bringing all the information about the event into one place.

Along with being able to access the schedule anytime, check out the latest tweets and learn about each session, speaker, attendee and sponsor/partner, the entire app is a full-blown replacement of their usual printed conference guide. But the Paley team and Rockstar took it one step further by scheduling timely push notifications to remind attendees of the days events and updates; even in one case alerting everyone that one of the 3 parking garages were full! The Paley team also utilized Mobile Roadie’s partner Livestream, to power it’s live broadcast. They are very familiar with Livestream already, having used a professional, multi-camera setup a number of times for their live events worldwide. But with this being a members-only conference meant that other than the select few in attendance, this was the first time anyone could experience the International Council, anywhere in the world, from a mobile device…in real time.

But don’t take their word for it, download the app now, join the Livestream for the final day of the conference and spread the word to your network, all from the palm of your hand!

Mobile Roadie Launches in China

posted by Terri Kim

Mobile Roadie has officially launched in the land of 916 million mobile subscribers, 85 million of whom are 3G mobile phone users. As the world’s largest self-service app platform with a strong presence in the UK, France, Spain, Australia, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Turkey and Japan, we are expanding our products and solutions to the world’s largest mobile phone market, becoming one of the first companies to offer this kind of DIY app platform in China.

With the help of our local partner FabriQate, a full-service mobile agency with offices in Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Mumbai and London, we are introducing Q魔宝 (English Translation: QMoBao), a localized version of the Mobile Roadie platform, to the Chinese market. We have also strategically partnered with China Unicom and China Mobile, two of China’s leading telecommunication providers, to assist in our launch.

We’re entering China early, taking advantage of the opportunities in the quickly growing mobile market, which can be attributed to the adoption of new technologies and the decrease in mobile phone prices. China’s smartphone market is growing at a faster rate than the rest of the world- smartphone shipments jumped 54% from 35 million units in 2010 to 54 million units in 2011, and it is predicted that by 2015 the China market will experience a 26% compound annual growth rate compared to 20% worldwide. We believe once Android gains scale and prices go to near zero, the demand for non-smart phones could be eliminated, creating massive opportunities in China.

With our customizable and cost-effective platform, artists and brands looking to increase their presence in China will be able to easily build iOS and Android apps for Chinese consumers who want to engage with them in an innovative way, filling the void of mobile engagement between fans and brands in China. Millions of fans worldwide are interacting with their favorite artists through our apps, as we power apps for some of the world’s most exciting artists, brands and organizations. So it’s no surprise that we’ve chosen the original Queen of Pop – an international superstar – to represent Mobile Roadie in our China launch.

Fans of Madonna can now download her official app ”麦当娜” custom designed for the Chinese market. In her app, Chinese fans can listen to tracks, view photos and videos, engage with other fans on the fan wall, and share their activity on Weibo and Renren (The Chinese equivalent of Twitter and Facebook). Check out the below screenshot.

China is the largest mobile market we’ve launched in to date, solidifying our position as an international company.

Mobile Roadie surpasses 10 million app downloads

posted by Terri Kim

Since launching just two years ago in March 2009, Mobile Roadie has become the “must-have” self-service app platform for thousands, powering apps for big name artists such as Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, hotels like the world-renowned Wynn Las Vegas, and many more of the world’s top artists and brands.

Our database of over a thousand apps and counting, from international brands to local establishments, has generated over 10 million app downloads; that’s right- apps powered by Mobile Roadie have been downloaded over 10 MILLION times by consumers in over 56 countries!

To celebrate this milestone in Mobile Roadie’s history, we created the following infographic highlighting key stats and achievements of some of our most popular apps and of our platform.

Key highlights of the infographic:

-International Engagement: Mobile Roadie customers are from 56 countries in 5 continents, and their apps are downloaded by users from all corners of the world, including Mauritius and American Samoa.

-Top Media Plays: Mobile Roadie’s 10 million users are highly engaged, playing over 150 million songs, commenting over 13 million times and posting over 1.5 million photos on fan walls in our apps.

-Most Engaged Fans: 4 of the 5 most active apps are from global artists, while the fifth app, MBC FM, is a popular radio station from the Middle East

We’ve made huge strides to become the world’s largest self-service app platform; and we’re not slowing down anytime soon. Here’s a sneak peak at what we have in store:

Two app releases by world-famous artists that are sure to be hits:

Adele-
The most popular iTunes artist and the first artist in UK Chart history to sell 3 million albums in the same year, Adele is undoubtedly one of the top divas of the year, garnering praise for her sultry vocals and heartfelt lyrics by critics and peers alike, and gaining millions of adoring fans along the way.

Noel Gallagher-
An artist who keeps heads turning in his musical career, Noel Gallagher is one of the most talented songwriters of his generation. Hailing from the UK, his musical influence spans over two decades, and now he’s returned to the spotlight with High Flying Birds.

Along with app releases, we are also releasing Mobile Roadie version 3.3 in late September with new updates that will improve user experience, fan engagement and overall platform functionality. We’ll also be giving updates on how we’re progressing in China following our recent launch to the world’s largest mobile market.

In the past two years, we’ve helped brands engage with their fans in a customizable, inexpensive way through mobile apps. Reaching this 10 million download milestone attests to the power of a Mobile Roadie app.

Mobile Roadie Artists Win Big at the 2011 MTV VMAs

posted by Terri Kim

From Beyoncé’s baby announcement to Adele’s no-frills, just pure voice performance, the 2011 VMAs had its share of unforgettable moments. No, Lady Gaga didn’t wear a meat dress this year, but she did come as her alter-ego Jo Calderone and opened the VMAs in true Lady Gaga-turned-New Jersey Italian male model fashion (Got that?).

But besides these and many more newsworthy moments, we’d like to focus on the artists who won big at this year’s VMAs, some of whom are Mobile Roadie clients.

Katy Perry took home three Moonmen, winning the top award of the night Video of the Year with her song “Firework”, along with awards for Best Collaboration and Best Special Effects for her song “E.T.”

Lady Gaga took home multiple awards as well, including Best Female Video and Best Video with a Message for her song “Born This Way.”

Adele was last night’s big winner, taking home four Moonmen for her single “Rolling in the Deep”, which won awards for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Director, and Best Editing.

Britney Spears took home the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award as well as the award for Best Pop Video for her single “Till the World Ends.”

The Foo Fighters took a Moonman home for Best Rock Video for “Walk.”

Other winners include Beyonce (Best Choreography: “Run the World (Girls)”), Justin Beiber (Best Male Video: “U Smile”), Nicki Minaj (Best Hip-Hop Video: “Super Bass”), and Tyler, The Creator (Best New Artist).
